I have lived in Cordoba, Argentina; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Orlando, Florida; and Fort Myers, Florida. The differences I noted in these places were many. From the culture, to the language, to the places and the people.
4. What do you enjoy most? Hobbies, activities, etc.
I enjoy greatly to read and to travel. I also love shopping, anywhere! I like to read everything except fantasy. I like to travel anywhere. I have already visited over 10 countries and would love to visit many, many more. I also like to swim and go to the beach.

When I was five years old, I think there was a show called Bananas in Pajamas, I loved that show! The other show I loved was Tom and Jerry.
7. If you could be any animal, what would it be?
If I could be any animal I would probably be a bird or a dog. A bird because I can fly and see the world. A dog because they have a pretty easy life, especially if it is like mine!
8. What are you looking forward to most when you move back to Argentina?
When I move to Argentina what I am most looking forward is going to college. I am really excited! As well as hanging out with all my friends whom I miss soooooo much!

When I moved to the United States for the first time I was nine years old. I did not speak any English, and hated it there for the first couple of months. Later on, in a few months, I learned English and made many friends. I do not regret ever moving to the United States. I believe people should never give up. That was really hard for me but I did not give up and I learned English, even though no one understood me, I got through it.

Meika Bodwell – August Student of the Month

Meika Bodwell had an awesome experience this summer! She was able to travel all over Europe as part of the People to People Ambassador Program. Meika was nominated the program and travelled in between completing the first and second semesters of English 4. Through meetings, seminars or humanitarian efforts, and cultural activities, participants connect with people with similar interests or professions while overseas.

Meika hopes to complete college, and within five years, be pursuing her dream of becoming a massage therapist. She loves dancing, reading and playing with kids. That probably comes in handy, because she describes herself as “loud, comedic, and caring”. She is very honored to be student of the month!

Meika ia currently enjoying the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, and her other favorite author is Meg Cabot.

These are pictures from my last competition; Dance Makers Inc. It was the Daytona Beach regionals. I won first place with my solo “Rocking Pneumonia” making me Mrs. Starmaker Daytona Beach 2007-2008. We also as a group won first place with all of the numbers we took. The one with all of the people in black “Hip Hip Chin Chin”.  I also performed a trio called “Special Two” about two girls who are best friends and the other girl wants to be friends with them but they want nothing to do with her and just mess with her mind throughout. Finally a second trio called “Excellent Birds”.

Congrats Kiera!

Student Spotlight – Ariel Herrera

Ariel posted two awesome poems to the discussion board in class. We wanted to share them with you!

Just one of those Gloomy days, you feel like writing…

Shield what they can’t see
despair is what I hide
within me secrets blossom
chaos and despair is what i feel
what they don’t know is what I hide
I appear with cheer
with a smile of love
a heart of gold
is what I’ve been told
but what they don’t know
are the tears I drown beneath
a man can’t cry
is what they say
and yet they cry when they die
so why can’t one cry when a piece of one dies
a piece of joy and happiness
decaying away in darkness
away from the light
afraid to come out
to simply be forgotten without concern
what they don’t know is the play I live
an act is a time of day
one scene is a mask of joy
and another of dread
of simplicity
put with sorrow
I look to the future
but all I see is my play coming to an end
the curtain close
and I do nothing
I live a life of misery and joy
a life of love and hatred
a life of tears in the darkness
and of laughs with the light
a secret is what I hide
a secret no one can be told
a secret I am yet to confront
for when I do
the secret will overpower me
and the curtain will truly fall upon me…

Dedicated to the “POPTARTS”

The darkness spreads like fire
it’s flames and immortal life burning through every heart
but as the darkness approaches my heart
a light shines from within
within my heart a glimpse of hope escapes
a glimmer of chance is what I see
of what or where does this light come from
from within my heart is spreads
as a ripple in a lake
the light grows to immense power
piercing the darkness from all angles
warning it
“this heart you can not have!
this heart is protected
for as long as we live our friendship will overcome it”
from within my heart come the faces
the faces which the darkness can not touch
the light which no evil can destroy
my friends and I will hold on strong
and keep those demons at bay.

Ariel is a student at Tampa Bay Technical Institute and is working in a nursing program.
